About a year after discovering the tapeworm, Lowri began experiencing intense headaches that gradually became more frequent.
In 2011, she suffered her first seizure. Before collapsing, she noticed she was having trouble speaking and struggled to get certain words out. When she regained consciousness, she realized she was inside an ambulance, with no memory of what had happened.
She was taken to hospital, where doctors carried out a CT scan and an MRI scan to determine the cause of her symptoms. After reviewing the results, a doctor delivered the shocking news that the scans had revealed 38 parasites in her brain.
The diagnosis left Lowri and her mother speechless. Neither of them could believe what they had just heard, and they were overwhelmed with confusion as they tried to understand how something like this could happen.
At first, doctors suspected she was suffering from toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection commonly associated with exposure to infected cat feces. However, further investigations later showed that this was not the correct diagnosis.
