From friendship bracelets to wedding rings: A Taylor and Travis timeline

Reports suggest that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to mark their wedding celebrations with a party at Madison Square Garden this weekend.

Speculation around the ceremony has been widespread since the couple announced their engagement in an Instagram post last August. Although they have shared very few details publicly, the idea of booking one of New York’s largest indoor venues for an entire weekend has naturally fuelled ongoing rumours.

Beyond the celebrity attention, the event would symbolise the union of two highly influential public figures. Together, they are estimated to have a combined wealth of around $2.2 billion, with influence spanning music, professional sports, film, podcasting, publishing, and television.

For fans of Swift, the moment is seen as the culmination of a long-running personal and cultural narrative that has unfolded over nearly two decades.

Ahead of the anticipated celebrations, attention has turned to how their relationship developed over time.

A bumpy start

Travis Kelce first appeared on the radar of fans of Taylor Swift when he attended her Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on 8 July 2023. He watched the concert from a private suite and was also seen interacting with fans and exchanging friendship bracelets, a tradition among Swift’s concertgoers.

Later, he discussed the experience on his New Heights podcast, explaining that he had hoped to meet Swift during the event. He even admitted that he tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but was unable to do so, saying he was disappointed not to have the chance to meet her in person.

His comments quickly went viral online, eventually reaching Swift herself. She later described the situation humorously, comparing it to someone “standing outside my apartment with a boom box,” openly expressing interest in going on a date.

Going public

After Taylor Swift’s appearance on Travis Kelce’s podcast, she later said she began hearing encouragement from people around her who were subtly suggesting she should consider getting to know him better. Over the summer, she eventually decided to take the step.

The couple officially went public on 24 September, when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game to support Kelce, sitting alongside his mother, Donna Kelce. During the match, when Kelce scored a touchdown, cameras captured Swift celebrating enthusiastically, shouting, “Let’s f***ing go!” before the pair later left the stadium together.

Fans were surprised by the openness of the moment, as Swift had typically maintained a high level of privacy around her personal relationships. This public appearance marked a clear shift, effectively confirming the start of their relationship.

Shortly after, Kelce addressed the moment on his podcast, praising Swift for attending the game and jokingly calling her appearance “pretty bold.”
