If you have peanut butter sitting in your pantry right now, you might want to take a closer look. A massive recall is underway affecting more than 20,000 peanut butter products sold in 40 states across the country. The reason? Possible plastic contamination.
What Happened?
The recall was triggered after inspectors discovered pieces of blue plastic in a production filter during manufacturing. The peanut butter was made by Ventura Foods, a major food manufacturer, and sold under several different brand names .
While the recall was first initiated back in April 2025, the FDA officially classified it as a "Class II" recall on February 12, 2026. According to the FDA, a Class II recall means that using or being exposed to the product may cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health problems," though the risk of serious injury is considered low .
What Products Are Affected?
This recall does not affect the standard jars of peanut butter you buy at the grocery store. Instead, it involves single-serve packets and cups that are typically distributed to restaurants, schools, and food service providers. According to the FDA, the recalled products include :
Creamy peanut butter packets in 0.5-ounce, 0.75-ounce, and 1.12-ounce sizes
Twin packs combining creamy peanut butter with strawberry jam in 1-ounce and 1.12-ounce cups
Twin packs combining creamy peanut butter with grape jelly in 1-ounce and 1.12-ounce cups
These products were sold under several private-label brand names, including US Foods, DYMA Brands, Flavor Fresh, Sysco House Recipe, Katy's Kitchen, and Gordon Food Service .
Which States Are Affected?
The recalled peanut butter was distributed across 40 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin .
What Should You Do?
If you have any of these single-serve peanut butter products at home, the FDA recommends checking the labels for manufacturer information. You should follow guidance from the retailer or manufacturer on whether the products should be returned to the store or safely thrown away.
